Filipino inventor tops Genius Europe. Department of Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro (right) joins Filipino inventor Virgilio Malang (center) and wife Jasmine in showing off Malang's trophies and citations reaped during the 2004 Genius Europe billed as the International Exhibition of Inventions, Works of Fine and Applied Arts at the Budapest Fair Center, Hungary last May 1-4.  Malang won a gold and five silver medals along special awards such as Romania Minister of Education and Research Cup, Ancu Dinca Prospective Studies Cup, Belepo Geniusz Europa Zsuri Commendation trophy, and Association of Hungarian Inventors' trophy.  Malang's winning inventions, which competed with 1,000 inventions from 46 participating countries are early-warning device, patient side-turning hospital bed, nutraceutical beer, a broom's way of hanging, external vaginal cleaner, light-refracting earpick, P. guajava effervescing insert, and Indoor lock.  DOST's Technology Application and Promotion Institute sponsored Malang's participation.
