Department of Science and Technology Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro recently received the Gawad Parangal from the Quezon City government in time for the city’s 68th founding anniversary in October 1.
Sec. Alabastro was cited for her “achievements and contributions to the development of science and technology in the country.” Particularly, she was commended for successfully coordinating and implementing science and technology programs and projects in the country in her various roles as cabinet secretary, chairperson, and official.
Her contribution in the advancement of food science and technology was likewise recognized by the Quezon City government. Dr. Albastro was a professor, researcher, and administrator of academic programs in the University of the Philippines – Diliman before she joined DOST in 2001. Her research works and publications focused in the areas of food science, nutrition, and food engineering.
Quezon City likewise commended her role in providing technology support to upgrade systems and processes of small and medium-scale entrepreneurs (SMEs) through DOST’s Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
Launched in 2002, the Gawad Parangal honors outstanding citizens and organizations or institutions in QC either for a single act of special distinction or lifetime achievement. (S&T Media Service)
