DOST and PEZA open TBI

The Department of Science and Technology and Philippine Economic Zone Authority signed a memorandum of agreement to establish the DOST-PEZA Open Technology Business Incubator last September 25 at Bayview Park Hotel in Manila.

Those present during the event include DOST Sec. Estrella F. Alabastro, PEZA Director-General Lilia B. de Lima, DOST Undersecretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña, Technology Resource Center Director-General Antonio Y. Ortiz, and Advanced Science and Technology Institute Director Denis F. Villorente, among other government officials.

The DOST-PEZA Open TBI is a collaborative project of DOST, PEZA, ASTI, TRC, and University of the Philippines designed to promote technology entrepreneurship and local technology-based businesses development in support of national innovation agenda. Focus will be on software, content, and hardware companies whose business models incorporate open source software.

It will be established within ASTI’’s premises along C.P. Garcia Avenue, UP Technology Park Complex in Diliman, Quezon City.

Many developing countries promote business incubators in advancing their economies believing that the entrepreneurial drive of startups increases the chances of business success.

ASTI will provide technical expertise in the operation of the DOST-PEZA Open TBI along with technical assistance and training for the locators. TRC will handle the management side of the project.

Also present during the MOA signing were UP Vice Chancellor for Research and Development Luis G. Sison, DOST Planning and Evaluation Services Director Bernie S. Justimbaste, and Philippine Council for Advanced Science and Technology Research and Development Executive Director Reynaldo V. Ebora.
