EU program officer visits DOST XI MoLab
Europeano Union program officer Virginie Lafleur Tigne visited the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI last February 23 to evaluate the S&T Mobile Laboratory (MoLab), a joint project of DOST XI and SDCAsia that has EU funding support.
The MoLab aims to hasten process and product development and quality assurance especially among SMEs located far from the regional laboratory. It could also deliver timely and accurate technical services in remote areas; establish linkages with other agencies in environment monitoring and conduct on-site testing; and enhance the capabilities of laboratory staff in rapid and on-site testing.
The MoLab was launched on October 16, 2006 and has conducted a trainers’ training for field analysts on January 10-12, 2007. A dry-run in Digos City in cooperation with the City Health Office of Digos City and SDC-Asia was also conducted on January 12, 2007.
It is capable of providing basic analytical laboratory services such as microbiological analysis including total plate count, yeast and mold count, total coliforms and Escherichia coli, physico-chemical analysis (titratable acidity, pH, salinity, total soluble solids) and water potability test. STP
