BUSINESS PROSPECTS Of a coconut vinegar maker in Dapitan City is expected to sizzle following a joint support pledge between the Department of Science and Technology--Regional Office IX and the Provincial Government of Zamboanga Del Norte--Technology and Livelihood Center.
Lando-Bibo Owaon Chapter based in Barangay Owaon, Dapitan City, which makes spicy hot coconut vinegar will receive production equipment acquisition benefit through DOST’s grants-in-aid program.
DOST-IX will also provide technical assistance on process improvement, and product development and standardization. Other project requirements such as location and building to house the equipment and related facilities shall be provided by the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Norte (ZDN). A memorandum of agreement on the project was slated last April.
The project aims to upgrade LBOC’s production processes to improve the quality and competitiveness of its product. If successful, the project could result to additional local employment and higher demand on local raw materials such as tuba (coconut water) and spices.LBOC plans to sell the improved vinegar in various outlets in Dipolog, Dapitan and other high traffic areas of ZDN, Zamboanga del Sur, Dumaguete, and Cebu.
